āI Joined for Six Weeks. Five Years Later, Iām Training for a Solo HYROX.ā

Some of the most powerful Bodyfit Mums stories are never accompanied by transformation photographs.

I thought I was joining for six weeks
I joined Bodyfit Mums in March 2021, six months after the birth of my son.
At the time, I thought I was signing up for a six-week programme. Little did I know that five years later, I would still be part of this incredible community and preparing for a solo HYROX event.
Before becoming a mum, I loved exercise classes and running. But with a new baby and my husband’s unpredictable working hours, getting to classes became almost impossible.
Bodyfit Mums gave me the opportunity to train from home.
For the first three years, I completed pre-recorded workouts from my living room with nothing more than a resistance band and a growing collection of dumbbells.
Then I developed severe sciatica
During that time, I developed severe sciatica as an unwanted complication following childbirth.
The pain in my lower back and leg became debilitating. An MRI in 2023 confirmed a large disc protrusion, and I was told that I would likely need surgery.
I received a steroid injection to help manage the pain, but despite everything, I kept showing up for my workouts because I understood how important movement could be.
Live training changed things again
In June 2024, my Bodyfit Mums journey moved to another level when live classes were introduced.
There was no hiding from Aimee and Catriona!
They continually encouraged me to push myself, lift heavier and believe in what I was capable of.
Slowly but surely, I realised I was moving better and feeling stronger. Then something amazing happened: the sciatica pain disappeared.
By spring 2025, I had been discharged from hospital completely pain-free. I never needed the surgery that had once seemed inevitable.
I genuinely believe the consistent movement, strength training and support I received through Bodyfit Mums played a huge role in my recovery.
From my living room to my first solo event
Then came another turning point.
In August 2025, Aimee challenged us to take on the Hybrid Games at the Eikon Centre in March 2026.
After listening to a voice message from her telling me she believed I was capable, I did something I never thought I would do: I signed up for the Female Solo event.
With Aimee’s programme, Catriona’s encouragement and the unwavering support of the Bodyfit Mums community, I crossed that finish line.
Since then, I’ve completed my first half marathon in ten years.
Now I’m preparing for my biggest challenge yet: competing in a solo HYROX event in Dublin in November 2026.
Twelve months ago, I would have thought that goal was impossible.
The foundations were built at home
Looking back, I’m incredibly proud of what I’ve achieved simply by consistently showing up—whether that was in my living room with a pair of dumbbells or alongside the amazing women in the Bodyfit Mums community.
More than anything, I’m grateful for the support, encouragement and belief Aimee and Catriona have shown me throughout this journey.
I joined Bodyfit Mums thinking it was a six-week programme.
Five years later, it has become so much more than that.
It has helped me regain my strength, rebuild my confidence, overcome challenges I never expected to face and achieve things I never believed were possible.
What a community. ā¤ļø
You don’t need a gym (or complete confidence) to begin
This story is extraordinary, but the way it began was very ordinary: a busy new mum, an unpredictable family routine and a few pieces of equipment in her living room.
She didn’t begin by training for a HYROX. She began by finding a way to exercise that fitted around her life.
Over time, those individual workouts became something much bigger:
- A consistent training routine
- Progressively heavier weights
- Greater strength and confidence
- Expert coaching and encouragement
- A community that believed in her
- The foundations for challenges she once considered impossible
That is what sustainable progress often looks like. It isn’t one dramatic six-week transformation. It’s continuing to show up and allowing your goals to grow alongside you.
